The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked first in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, defeated Lake Superior State University on Saturday, December 6 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 5-0 record on the season with a 2-0 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers jumped out to a 19-2 lead after a pair of free throws by senior forward Morgan Lewis with 13:14 left in the first half. Findlay’s big lead quickly evaporated however as the Lakers Miach Hudson hit a barrage of three pointers to help Lake Superior State narrow the gap at 24-20 with 6:54 showing on the clock.

The Oilers would then end the half on a 10-0 run to take a 34-20 advantage at the break.

Findlay then took care of business in the second half of the game as they only shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the floor but hit on 40.9 percent (9-of-22) of their three point attempts. The Oilers also forced 19 turnovers and held the Lakers to 36.4 percent (20-of-55) shooting in the win.

Senior forward Josh Bostic and senior center Lee Roberts led the way with 14 points apiece.

Bostic also added 10 rebounds while Roberts added eight boards.

Sophomore guard Nathan Hyde added 12 points while junior guard Marcus Parker chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Hudson led the Lakers with 16 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on December 13 when they travel to Allendale, Michigan to face Grand Valley State University at 3:00 p.m.
