Central Missouri basketball is headed back to the NCAA-II Elite Eight following a dominating 98-63 victory over Southwest Baptist in the NCAA-II South-Central Regional championship game Tuesday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
The sixth-ranked Mules scored the games first seven points and never trailed in claiming the regional title and a match-up against Gannon University, winner of the Atlantic Regional, next Wednesday evening in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Sanijay Watts lead the Mules balanced attack with 22 points, and was named to the All-Regional Team as the MVP, one of four Mules on the squad. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by De'Andre Byrd, Tremaine Luellen, and Alex Moosman.
The victory pushes the Mules record to 29-4, tying for the second most wins in a single season with the NCAA-II championship squad of 1984. UCM also advances to the Elite Eight for the second time in the past three years under head coach Kim Anderson.
