CINCINNATI — Senior point guard Tu Holloway will sit out Xavier’s season opener for a secondary violation of NCAA rules limiting summer league games.
Holloway played in too many summer league games, a violation that was reported to the NCAA. He’ll miss the opener on Nov. 11 at Morgan State.
Holloway decided to return to Xavier for his senior season after considering the NBA draft. He was the Atlantic 10’s player of the year in 2010-11, when the Musketeers won at least a share of the regular season conference title for the fifth straight year. The Musketeers are picked to win the league title again behind Holloway, who anchors an experienced backcourt.

LOS ANGELES — UCLA sophomore center Anthony Stover and junior guard De’End Parker both sustained concussions in preseason basketball practice.
A team spokesman said Monday that Stover was hurt during a drill in practice a week ago, while Parker was hurt during Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage when a teammate inadvertently elbowed him in the head.
Stover is expected to return to practice this week, while Parker will miss the rest of the week and is being monitored daily.
