No. 21 Augustana (S.D.) knocked off
Concordia-St. Paul rides balanced attack to pull upset
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Concordia-St. Paul shot 57.6 percent (34-59) from the floor on Tuesday night to defeat 21st-ranked Augustana (S.D.) 81-77 at the Gangelhoff Center in Northern Sun play. The Golden Bears hand the Vikings their third consecutive loss as seven players scored at least seven points in a balanced team effort.
Of the seven Golden Bears with seven-plus points on the evening, five were in double-figures led by Peter Olafeso who tallied 15 on 6-11 shooting. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Cole Olstad had a break-out performance with 14 points including 4-6 three-point shooting while collecting six rebounds which tied for a game-high.
Kenny Olafeso, a 63.3 percent shooter from the field on the season entering play, continued to bolster the remarkable feat by making 6-8 from the floor on the night. He finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The game was tight for the first 20 minutes, featuring eight ties and 14 lead changes in an intense first half. Augustana's largest lead was six, and Concordia's was five as the Golden Bears went into the break leading by a point 43-42 as Kenny Olafeso finished on a fastbreak with just a few seconds to play.

The Golden Bears connected on 61.3 percent (19-31) from the floor and knocked down five three-pointers to build the slight lead at halftime. Augustana wasn't far off their pace, though, at 56.3 percent (18-32) from the field and hitting four three-pointers. The first half saw only five combined free throws with just one of those attempted by the home team.
Concordia's halftime lead would hold up throughout, as they would not relinquish their lead after Kenny Olafeso's late first half lay-in. The Golden Bears improve to 5-0 on the year when leading at the break and after attempting only nine total free throws in the contest, they win for the first time this season when being held to under 20 free throw attempts.
In that second half, Concordia was able to mount a 13-point lead with 11:29 to play in the game after a fastbreak lay-up from Terez Van Pelt who finished with seven points off the bench.
But after the Golden Bears built their 13-point lead, the preseason NSIC favorites didn't back down. The Vikings, trailing by 12 points (70-58) with 10 minutes to play, started to get hot, scoring seven consecutive points over a two and a half minute stretch to cut the gap to five points at 70-65 with 8:20 to play.
The rest of the way, Concordia wouldn't lead by more than seven points but Augustana wasn't able to complete the comeback. They had just one possession with the ball and a chance to tie, trailing 78-75 but Cameron McCaffrey misfired on a jumper with Peter Olafeso snaring the rebound.
The Vikings were led by Drae Murray's game-high 20 points and five steals as he was 8-11 from the floor and 3-5 from long range. McCaffrey added 19 points and three steals. The NSIC Preseason Player of the Year, Cody Schilling, was held in check to 12 points on 4-13 shooting.
Adding to Concordia's totals were Deonte Roberts and Brent Barz. Roberts led Concordia's bench with 10 points on 5-6 shooting while Barz had eight points (3-5 FG), six rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
Isaiah Thomas poured in 12 points on 5-9 shooting as well, hitting on 10 of his points before the break.
