CINCINNATI – Xavier has expelled forward Dez Wells for what it calls a “serious violation” of the school’s code of student conduct.

Wells started 32 games as a freshman last season and was the fourth-leading scorer. His expulsion means that the Musketeers have lost all five starters from the team that reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. Three graduated and senior guard Mark Lyons left by mutual agreement.

Wells averaged 9.8 points and 4.9 rebounds as a freshman, making the Atlantic 10′s all-rookie team. He was suspended for four games for his role in an on-court brawl with Cincinnati during the season.

Xavier says the school’s conduct board, consisting of faculty, students and administrators, decided Wells had violated the conduct code and deserved expulsion.
