In its first season in the MEAC, Savannah State won its final 13 regular season games en route to the regular season championship. After sitting out the 2010-11 season, Rashad Hassan returned to the Tigers' lineup and led the team in scoring.

Marques Oliver returns for his senior season to pair with Kendall Gray for perhaps the best frontcourt in the MEAC this season. Oliver finished in the top 20 in blocked shots per game last season with 2.5. He also ranked eighth in the league in rebounding and fourth in field-goal percentage.

In his first season after transferring from Oklahoma, Ray Willis shined for North Carolina Central. Willis finished seventh in the conference in scoring. He scored 20-plus points on seven occasions including a career-high 28 points at home against Delaware State.
