ADRIAN, Mich. — Head coach Matt Neil’s Hope squad remains unbeaten in the MIAA after posting a convincing 81-72 victory on the road Saturday against No. 7 Adrian.
The win extends Hope’s conference winning streak to 17 in a row and puts the Flying Dutchmen over the .500 mark (7-6) for the first time in nearly a month. Hope shares first place in league play with rival Calvin and Trine.
The Flying Dutchmen set the tone early by scoring the game’s first seven points and pulling to a 16-2 lead after just five minutes. Hope’s lead at halftime was 43-26.
Adrian trimmed Hope’s lead to single figures with four minutes remaining and was within four points in the final minutes of the game. However, Hope sealed the win from the free-throw line.
Freshman center Brock Benson recorded his first collegiate double-double scoring 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds, including seven off the defensive board.
Senior guard Colton Overway also scored 18 points and had a team-best five assists while senior Billy Seiler followed with 15 points and had four steals.
Shooting 53 percent from the floor, the Flying Dutchmen maximized their shots by taking just 47 of them the entire game.
