BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — In a game that saw 13 lead changes, No. 16 Illlinois Wesleyan improved to 7-0 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a 69-61 win against No. 5 North Central (Ill.) at the Shirk Center on Wednesday.
The Titans are 15-3 overall while North Central slipped to 5-2 in the CCIW and 16-2 overall.
Illinois Wesleyan trailed by as many as five at 24-19 with 10:30 to play in the first half, but rallied to claim a 41-38 advantage at intermission.
The Titans extended to their largest lead of eight points with 13:50 to play in the game at 49-41 before the Cardinals came back to tie the game for the 10th time at 55.
The game was tied again at 59 with 3:34 left, but Kevin Reed scored four points and Dylan Overstreet scored three as IWU outscored North Central 10-2 in the final minutes.
Illinois Wesleyan outrebounded North Central 40-28 and had 18 second-chance points to the Cardinals’ eight.
Andrew Ziemnik led the Titans with 19 points while Derek Raridon paced the Cardinals with a game-high 21 points.
