Davis

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Armstrong Atlantic athletic director Lisa Sweany on Friday announced that assistant coach Evans Davis will assume the role of interim head coach for the 2013-14 season following the resignation of Jeremy Luther to become an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb.

Davis has been a part of the Armstrong basketball program since the 2009-10 season. He also served as the head men's cross country coach at Armstrong in 2009-10.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to be the head coach at Armstrong," Davis said. "I think we have a chance to be a good team this year. Through hard work and dedication, we expect to compete and put ourselves in a position to be successful."

A former standout at Mercer University, Davis played collegiately at Truett McConnell College for two seasons before finishing up his playing career for the Bears, averaging 10.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his Mercer career.

Davis began his collegiate coaching career at Mercer as a graduate assistant for the women's program, then went to Truett McConnell as both an assistant and as the head men's basketball coach before moving to North Florida, where he spent three seasons as a member of the basketball staff.

Luther leaves the Pirates after serving at the helm of the men's basketball program for the past four seasons, compiling a 51-56 overall record and a 32-41 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. The Pirates went 15-12 in 2012-13 and 11-8 in the PBC, finishing second in the Eastern Division while advancing to the Peach Belt Conference tournament.
