Arkansas Tech keeps hold of No. 1 ranking in latest poll

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas Tech women's basketball strengthened its hold on the No. 1 rankings in this week's first regular season USA Today/ESPN WBCA Division II Coaches Poll that was released on Tuesday.
Tech, who earned its first-ever No. 1 ranking in this years Preseason WBCA poll, earned 700 points and 20 out of a possible 29 first place votes in this weeks rankings. In the preseason poll, Tech earned 15 first place votes and 671 points.
The USA Today/ESPN WBCA Coaches Poll is voted on weekly by a panel of 30 head coaches at NCAA Division II institutions and all the coaches are members of the WBCA (Womens Basketball Coaches Association). This season, Tech Head Coach Dave Wilbers will once again serve as a voter in the poll.
Tech, who opened the season 4-0 for the third consecutive year, is one of three Gulf South Conference teams mentioned in this weeks poll as Techs GSC West Division rival Delta State (3-0) continues to sit at No. 2 as the Lady Statesmen earned 674 points and five first place votes, while Harding earned 22 votes to be 20th among the 43 teams earning votes this week.
Following Tech and DSU in this weeks first regular season poll is Lander (4-0) at No. 3 as they earned two first place votes and 641 points, while Holy Family (3-0) moves up one spot to No. 4 and Emporia State, the defending D-II National Champions, jumps one spot to No. 5 as the Hornets earned a first place vote and 580 points.
The next five in the poll begins with Seattle Pacific (2-0) at No. 6 and they are followed by Indianapolis (3-0) at No. 7 and Fort Lewis (2-0) leaps four spots to No. 8 as the Skyhawks earned the final first place this week. Washburn (1-0) remains ninth this week and Franklin Pierce (4-0) jumps four spots to No. 10.
Alaska-Anchorage (4-1) and West Texas A&M (2-1) are tied at No. 11, while Clayton State (5-0) jumps eight spots to No. 13 and Michigan Tech (2-0) and Northeastern State (3-0) are tied at No. 14. Grand Valley State (2-0) leaps seven spots to No. 16 and the Lakers are followed by Wayne State [NE] (2-1) at No. 17 and Gannon (1-1) falls three spots to No. 18. Millersville (2-0) moves into this weeks poll at No. 19 and Wisconsin-Parkside (3-0) is also a newcomer this week at No. 20.
The final five in the poll begins with Cal State-Chico (2-0) at No. 21 and they are followed by Augustana (3-0) at No. 22 and Tusculum (0-3) falls 20 spots to No. 23 this week. The final two spots in this weeks poll are held by Western Washington (2-0) at No. 24 and Minnesota State-Mankato (2-0) rounds out this weeks poll at No. 25.
Tech will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 as they hit the road for the first time this season with a 2 p.m. Gulf South Conference match-up at West Alabama. Following the UWA game, Tech will travel to Carrollton, Ga., to face West Georgia in a 4:30 p.m. game on Monday, Nov. 29.
