OXFORD, Miss. — Travel issues stemming from the snow on the east coast has forced the Ole Miss women’s basketball team to cancel its trip to play in the St. Peter’s Holiday Classic in Jersey City, N.J.
“I’m saddened that we can’t make the tournament because I wanted to go and play,” head coach Renee Ladner said. “But this just makes sense with the bad weather. We have probably made the best decision for the safety of the team and with the budget.”
The Rebels were originally scheduled to fly from Memphis, Tenn., to Newark, N.J., on Monday but their flight was cancelled due to snow in New Jersey. Charter flight options did not work out and Ole Miss was forced to cancel its trip.
The Rebels were scheduled to play Samford on Wednesday followed by a game on Thursday against either host St. Peter’s or Central Connecticut State.
“We’ll be able to sharpen our skills this week in practice,” Ladner said. “We have an opportunity to get better before conference play starts on Sunday.”
Ole Miss’ next game is at home on Sunday at 2 p.m. versus Vanderbilt.
