N. Dakota hands Roebuck 600th win

Sioux post 57 points in second half to run past Houston Baptist

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — North Dakota ran past Houston Baptist 104-54 to give head coach Gene Roebuck the 600th victory of his coaching career Saturday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Seniors Mallory Youngblut and Corey Lof led the way for UND with 24 and 18 points, respectively, as the Fighting Sioux remained unbeaten in Great West play.

The Sioux led by 14 points at the break, but put the game away with a 57-point effort in the second half. UND (8-11, 4-0 GWC) outscored the Huskies (2-18, 0-5 GWC) by 36 points in the second stanza as the Sioux shot 56.9 percent for the game to finish with a season-high point total.

Lof posted the second double-double of her career as she added 10 rebounds with her 18 points, and also had a hand in five assists. Youngblut buried 6 of 9 from beyond the arc, while sophomore Carly Rothfusz went 4-for-7 from deep to finish with 15 points. Freshman Allyssa Wall also added 15 points for North Dakota.

UND’s defense pestered the visitors into 27 turnovers as the squad finished with a season-high 19 steals. Sophomore Nicole Smart led the team with five steals.

Charnay Mothershed led the Sioux with six assists as the team also had a season-high 29 helpers on 37 total field goals.
