Vaifanua ties school record with 107th career steal in victory

SAINT GEORGE, Utah -- Leading only 37-33 at the half, No. 13 Dixie State outscored Dominican (Calif.) 50-33 in the second half to push to an 87-66 victory at Burns Arena.
Dixie State (17-2, 7-1 PWC) led 45-40 with 16:34 left in the second half. Veronica Siqueiros and Sheila Adams hit back-to-back 3-pointers in a 13-1 Red Storm run to build the lead to 17 points. DSC then built a 25-point lead near the end of regulation.
The Red Storm shot 52.6 percent from the field for the game and a blistering 57.1 percent in the second half. DSC made nine 3-pointers and added a 40-29 rebound advantage.
The Penguins (5-16, 3-8) engaged the Red Storm in the first half with both teams shooting 14 of 29 from the field. The only difference was DSC's three 3-pointers and a free throw to give them the advantage at the break.
Dominican shot 43.8 percent from the floor for the game. Leading the way for Dominican was Tammy Brawner with a game-high 20 points. Raquel Gomes added 12 points in the loss.
Breann Hill scored a team-high 18 points for Dixie State and grabbed eight rebounds, Adams added 13 points and Johnna Brown chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Red Storm.
With her lone steal on the night, junior Shanae Vaifanua tied Tanya Clark for the most steals in Dixie State history with 107.
