Key 20-2 run pushes Yellowjackets into second round
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Jodie Luther and Michelle Ketcham combined for 12 points in a span of six minutes as Rochester took command and rolled past Daniel Webster 70-52 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Luther and Ketcham finished with 14 points apiece for Rochester. The Yellowjackets improved to 21-5 and moved into the second round where it will host Muhlenberg, which edged Williams 64-63. The winner of Saturday's game advances to the Sweet 16.
Vanessa Bosques led Daniel Webster with 18 points. Kacie Lang had eight points and 11 rebounds. Daniel Webster finished 18-11. The Eagles earned their first-ever NCAA tournament berth by winning the North East Collegiate Conference tournament.
A jumper by Bosques pulled the Eagles within 19-14 with 9:33 left in the first half. Luther ignited a 20-2 run by making two free throws, then scoring on back-to-back layups. Ketcham hit a pair of 3-point goals – she finished four of four outside the arc. The run ended on a 3-pointer by Kate Agan and a layup by Amy Woods.
