Notebook: Silva Perfect From the Line
AT THE STRIPE: Senior guard Megan Silva set an Old Dominion Athletic Conference record as she sank 16 of 16 free throws and led Randolph-Macon to an 80-72 win over Bridgewater College in league play on Dec. 6.
Silva scored a season-high 29 points in the game in addition to recording five rebounds, six assists and five steals. She made 12 of her 16 foul shots in the last 2:27 of the game as she broke the conference record of 13-for-13. Silva leads the league with 22.7 points and 5.5 assists per game.
The Yellow Jackets remained unbeaten in ODAC play and are No. 9 in the latest USA Today ESPN Division III Coaches Poll.
RECORD-BREAKER: Lawrence Universitys Claire Getzoff scored a career-high 30 points as she helped the Vikings to a 67-65 victory at Illinois College on Dec. 2 while breaking the schools all-time scoring record.
Getzoff, a senior guard from Evanston, Ill., added 14 points in the Vikings win at Knox College on Dec. 3 to improve her record total to 1,253. She surpassed Sarah ONeil who set the mark of 1,225 in 1992.
Getzoff averaged 24.7 points and shot 52.8 percent in Lawrences three wins last week to earn Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors. The Vikings are 6-0 for the first time in history.
400 AND COUNTING: New York University head coach Janice Quinn picked up her 400th career win as the Violets downed Mt. St. Mary College on Dec. 6.
Quinns all-time record stands at 400-104 in her 19th season as NYUs head coach. She has posted a winning record every year since taking over the program in 1987, and has led the Violets to 13 straight 20-win seasons.
"I'm as proud as I can be of how this group came together and grinded out this win," Quinn said. "I'm glad it was this group, this year, to mark the nice number 400."
No. 14 NYU has won 13 consecutive games dating back to last season and is 6-0 to start the year.
NOTABLE: Rutgers University-Camden senior center Megan Rulon became the 10th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark after scoring a game-high 25 points in an 80-56 loss to The College of New Jersey on Dec. 7. Rulon now has 1,015 points in her career, leads the Lady Raptors with 20.9 points per game and needs just 33 blocked shots to tie the school all-time record at 291 ¦ Junior Kelsey Duoss posted her third straight double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds in UW-Stouts 95-70 win over UW-Superior on Dec. 7. She is the only Blue Devil averaging double figures with 20.1 points per game and leads the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in scoring ¦. No. 23 Kenyon College extended its winning streak to eight games with a 54-51win over Case Western Reserve University. The No. 23 Ladies 8-0 record is their best start since the 1999-2000 season.
