SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-The American International women’s basketball team improved to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 after recording a 66-58 win over No. 15-ranked Franklin Pierce Tuesday, December 9. Senior forward Stacy Boisvert once again led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Senior guard Jeanette Johnathan added 13 points for AIC, making each of her three field goal attempts, including one three, and each of her six free throws. Sophomore guard Laechia Conley added four points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Senior guard Jennifer Leedham led the Ravens (4-3, 3-3) with 17 points, three rebounds and three steals and sophomore guard Cynthia Gaudet added 11 points off the bench. Junior all-American guard/forward Johannah Leedham scored just two points in four minutes before suffering and injury and did not return.

Franklin Pierce led 22-16 after a Gaudet layup with 7:34 remaining in the first half before the Yellow Jackets went on a 13-2 run to take a 31-24 lead with 3:23 left I the first half. AIC Led by nine, 35-26, after a pair of baskets from Conley but the Ravens closed the first half with a five-point run to pull within four, 35-31, at the break.

Franklin Pierce kept the game close in the second half and briefly regained the lead at 52-50 after a layup from junior guard Rachel Kimball with 3:46 left in the game. Junior forward Sasha Lowery tied the game on the ensuing possession and AIC regained the lead for good on a Johnathan free throw with 2:19 left in the contest. The Yellow Jackets pulled away at the free throw line, hitting all 12 of their attempts in the final two minutes.

AIC went 14 of 18 at the free throw line in the game, while Franklin Pierce was 4 for 4 at the line.
