The Heartland Conference will be on display Saturday afternoon from San Antonio when St. Mary's (Texas) takes on Incarnate Word in a nationally televised meeting that will be aired on CBS College Sports Network. Tip-off is set for 3 pm ET. The game can also be seen live on ncaa.com.
Both teams were in action Thursday evening before their Saturday matinee.
With their win over Texas A&M-International, the St. Mary’s improved to 15-2 overall and have won their last four in a row. Natalie Gamez scored a game-high 29 points and St. Mary's University shot 54 percent from the field as the Rattlers held off from Texas A&M-International. Gamez made 9-of-18 shots from the field and 5-of-13 from three-point range to lead all players. She also added six rebounds, five assists and three steals
Coming into Saturday’s contest, Incarnate Word won its first Heartland Conference game on the road, as they defeated St. Edward’s University in Austin to improve to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The victory was just the second road win of the season for the Cardinals. Nia Torru and Cinnamon Kava both scored 19 points to lead UIW, while Hayley Harvey and Nikki Brown both chipped in nine points. Both Torru and Kava were perfect from the free throw line, Torru making 7-of-7 and Kava cashing in on all four of her attempts.
Before Thursday’s game, Incarnate Word had its four-game winning streak and the seven-game undefeated streak snapped last weekend at the McDermott Center thanks to a 76-73 loss to visiting Texas A&M International.
