Calvin College freshman center Carissa Verkaik picked up her third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week award after setting the conference single-game scoring record with 46 points in a 93-77 victory over Adrian on Feb. 17.

The previous mark of 42 points had stood since 1996.  Verkaik’s 18 field goals was also a MIAA single-game record, surpassing the previous mark of 17 set in 1980.

The native of Holland, Mich., also contributed 18 points and eight rebounds in Calvin’s victory versus Alma, and combined for a 77 percent field goal percentage.

Verkaik finished the MIAA conference season with 60 blocked shots for a new league mark of 3.75 blocks per game. She also captured the MIAA scoring title with 296 points for an average of 18.5 points per game.
