LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--For the first time in school history, the UALR women's basketball team clinched a No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as junior Chastity Reed set the UALR career scoring record with the 73-43 victory over New Orleans Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans improve to 24-5 overall and 17-1 in conference action and extend the team's winning streak to 19 games.

"I thought we had good intensity and a lot of enthusiasm," said head coach Joe Foley. "I think they wanted to play well to finish out."

Reed led all scorers with 36 points going 14-of-29 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the free throw line and also recorded a team-high nine rebounds. She broke the record set by assistant coach Jocelyn Love in 2006.

Marian Kursh and Shanika Butler each contributed ten points with Butler recording a team-high nine boards.

New Orleans opened the half with a three-pointer, before a layup by Sitzmann from Reed sparked a 6-0 run by the Trojans to take the lead with 17:11 on the clock. UNO answered back with four straight points by Brittany Helm to regain the 7-6 advantage with 13:08 until the half.

A steal by Asriel Rolfe followed by a jumper by Reed sparked an 8-0 including six points from Reed to take the 14-7 lead. After both teams exchanged baskets, four straight-points by Reed sparked a 19-0 run including Reed setting the UALR career scoring record with 1,497 points at the 4:28 mark.

In the remaining 28.5 seconds, the Privateers scored four points including the team's first field goal in seven minutes to bring the half-time score to 34-15 in UALR's favor.

The Trojans opened the second half on an 8-2 run extending the team's lead to 42-17 at the 17:02 mark. Over the next two minutes, both teams exchanged six points with all of the Trojan's points coming for Reed to maintain the 48-23 lead.

Over the next six minutes, UALR outscored UNO eight to seven including a steal and fast break layup by Rolfe to extend the lead to 56-29 with 9:37 on the clock. Both teams exchanged baskets, before back-to-back three-pointers by Rachele Monroe cut the lead to 61-40 with 5:14 remaining.

In the remaining 4:43, the Trojans held UNO to a three-pointer while knocking down 12 points to win 73-43.

UALR goes into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will be on Sunday, March 7 at 12 p.m. on the main court at Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark. The Trojans will face the winner of the Arkansas State/Troy match-up on Saturday.
