POMONA, Calif. - No. 2 seed Grand Canyon narrowly defeated No. 7 Seattle Pacific 53-51 in the second game of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball West Region tournament Friday.

Seattle Pacific struck first, but the 'Lopes came out swinging with an 11-0 run in the first 7 minutes of the first half. Samantha Murphy of GCU would put up a dazzling performance, collecting 24 total points, six rebounds and four treys. Right behind her was Maylinn Smith with 16 points, two steals and an assist.

The Falcons would claw their way back in the second half. Down by just six, McKayla Gorman of SPU would sink a crucial 3-pointer, cutting the lead in half nearly a minute later. Caitlyn Rohrbach would layup a deuce to tie the game at 44-44. Rohrbach would finish with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Rohrbach proved crucial again by sinking two clutch free throws to give Seattle Pacific the lead with 47 seconds left in regulation, 50-49. GCU would not relent and connected on pivotal free throws to eventually overcome SPU. The 'Lopes will play at 5 p.m. Saturday against Cal State Monterey Bay at Kellogg Gym.
