LAKELAND, Fla. – Delta State outscored Florida Southern 31-20 in the second half en route to a 54-49 win on day one of the FSC Classic at Jenkins Field House.
The No. 20 ranked Moccasins (7-2) last home loss was exactly a year ago to the day, as they fell to Indianapolis in the same tournament. FSC ended DSU’s 64 game home winning streak with a 61-60 win on Nov. 13.
The Lady Statesmen (4-3) jumped ahead 16-11 with 9:52 remaining in the opening half, but the Moccasins responded with an 18-3 to take a 29-18 lead.
DSU responded to cut the FSC lead to 29-23 going into halftime. Michaela Hawley led all scorers with 12 first-half points, while Veronica Walker led the Lady Statesmen with nine.
The Lady Statesmen came out with a quick pace to open the second half, using a quick 5-0 spurt to cut the lead to 29-28 with 16:37 remaining. DSU also used solid defense to open the half, as the Mocs took 4:30 to score their first points of the half.

After trailing 37-32 with 13:24 remaining, DSU outscored the Moccasins 22-17 the remainder of the game. Freshman Rhandi Ball finished up the best game of her young career with four free throws in the last 22 seconds to finish the game.
Hawley finished with a game-high 22 points in the win. Ball had her first career double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Walker led DSU with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Brooke Rhodes also scored in double digits with 12. Denesha Henderson added eight for DSU.
The Lady Statesmen dominated the glass 36-26, which included 13 offensive rebounds. DSU also took advantage of 13-of-17 from the free-throw line, while the Mocs were 5-of-7.
Neither team finished particularly well from the floor, as FSC was 20-of-49 (40.8), which included a 4-of-16 effort from 3-point range. DSU ended the contest 20-of-51 (39.2)
