BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – No. 17 Illinois Wesleyan came back from an 11-point first-half deficit to top No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater 72-69 at the Shirk Center on Tuesday.

Senior Melissa Gardner led IWU (3-2) with 19 points while juniors Lexi Baltes and Colleen McMahon contributed 18 and 17, respectively.

The Warhawks topped the Titans 35-30 heading into halftime, and they continued to build off of that momentum into the second half, opening with a 10-0 run over IWU to bring the score to 40-30 with 17:40 on the clock.

The Titans, however, started hacking at the deficit, tying the game at 47 at the 11:12 marker after Katy Seibring hit a pair of free throws. Although the Warhawks stole back control, IWU did not let them get too far, as the Titans rallied for a comeback with under two minutes remaining.

Baltes nailed a pair of free throws to give IWU its first lead of the half at 64-63 and the team sparked from there, holding its minor lead until the buzzer sounded.
