LaMattina records career-high 27 points in Mount Union’s 72-69 OT win

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Rosa LaMattina tied the game with three seconds left and finished with a career-high 27 points to lead No. 2 Mount Union to a 72-69 overtime win at Denison on Wednesday.

The Purple Raiders improved to 5-0 on the season and extend their non-conference regular-season win streak to 28 games.

The Big Red’s four-game win streak came to an end with the loss.

Along with LaMattina, Amanda Turner and Aly Daniel came off the bench with 10 points each while Marybeth Leitch had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Kyli Parker came off the bench and had five 3-pointers to lead Denison with 17 points.

Denison rallied from a 15-point first half deficit and took its first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Nicole Coggins with 8:42 to play in regulation. The Big Red extended the lead to as many as four points 46-42 before five ties and three lead changes led to LaMattina’s game-tying shot.

In overtime, Brittany Kilgore hit a pair of jumpers to put the Raiders up four points 67-63. Mount Union went up by as many as five before the three-point final score.
