BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — No. 20 Wheaton (Ill.) used a late run to erase a 10-point deficit and earn a 75-67 road victory against No. 12 Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday night. The victory gave Wheaton the regular-season sweep of the Titans for the first time since 2004-05. The Thunder improved to 17-3 and 8-2 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Illinois Wesleyan dropped to 14-7 and 7-3 in the CCIW.
Illinois Wesleyan raced out to a quick 16-6 lead in the first six minutes and held a commanding lead throughout the first half, earning its biggest lead at 12 points with 6:40 remaining in the half. The Thunder closed the half on a 13-4 run to cut the halftime deficit to 36-35.
The second half remained close early before the Titans built another 10-point lead at 58-48 with 10:24 remaining. Consecutive 3-pointers by Breanna Bohlen jumpstarted a 13-3 Thunder run in the next five minutes to tie the game for the first time at 61-61. Another jumper by Bohlen gave Wheaton its first lead, 64-63, with 3:56 remaining.
Wheaton’s Brooke Olson extended the run from the free-throw line, scoring the Thunder’s final eight points from the charity stripe to ice the victory. Wheaton finished the game on a 27-9 run.
Wheaton shot 36.8 percent (21 of 57) from the field and 35.5 percent (11 of 31) from the 3-point line. The Thunder were 22-for-30 (73.3 percent) from the free-throw line. The Titans shot 33.9 percent (21 of 62) from the field and 26.3 percent (5 of 19) from the 3-point line while shooting 20-for-27 (74.1 percent) from the charity stripe.
Bohlen and Olson each finished with 27 points as the duo accounted for all 11 of Wheaton’s 3-point field goals. Olson finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds, as well as four assists. Bohlen grabbed nine rebounds.
Katy Seibring led three Titans in double figures with 18 points and nine rebounds. Colleen McMahon scored 15.
