Park's big game leads Marymount (Va.) into second round of NCAA tourney
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Marymount (Va.) defeated Eastern Mennonite 55-42 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
Head coach Ashlee Courter earned her 100th career victory with the win as the Saints advanced to face the winner of Christopher Newport and Guilford in the second round on Saturday.
Three Saints (24-4) scored in double figures, led by senior Tynisha Parks with her ninth double-double of the season. She scored a game-high 13 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Sophomore Dominique Dickens added 12 points off the bench while senior Katelyn Fischer added 11. Fischer added eight assists to go with five rebounds and three steals.
Freshman Miranda Krott also hauled in double-figure rebounds, pulling down 10 boards in the win for the Blue and White.
Now in her third season at the helm of her alma mater, Courter reached the 100-win milestone in seven years as a collegiate head coach. She won 49 games with Franklin & Marshall before returning to Marymount for 51 wins and counting.
Keyla Baltimore led Eastern Mennonite (21-7) with 10 points.
