The New York University women's cross country team placed 25th at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship, which was held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, November 10.Overall, a total of 37 teams and 255 runners competed on the 6,000-meter course. Senior Jane Wolkowicz was the leader finisher for the Violets, taking 121st place with a time of 25:13.9.

The individual top finisher was Liz Montgomery of SUNY-Geneseo, who ran 21:06.0.The Violets finished with 718 points.SUNY-Geneseo and SUNY-Plattsburgh were team co-champions, each finishing with a total of 41 points.Both teams will meet again at the NCAA National Championship next Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

The two top teams from each of the NCAA eight regional championship races automatically qualify, while another 16 teams earn "wild card" bids.The Violets' next finisher was freshman Emily Olson, who took 139th place in a time of 25:31.8. NYU's other scorers were freshman Katherine Wang (147th place, 25:48.9), senior Natalie Wilson (157th, 26:01/1), and freshman Natalie Helpern (172nd, 26:23.9)."While we didn't do as well team wise as I had hoped, we did post several personal bests," said NYU head coach Jef Smith. "We have a lot of young runners, so there's good reason to be optimistic as their careers move forward."
