TTU puts five runners in top 10

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and No. 4 women's cross country teams dominated the Richard Clark Invitational presented by the Greater Springfield Sports Commission held in Springfield, Mo., as both teams put five runners in the top 10.
"It was a good effort by everybody today," head coach Jon Murray said after the race. "Overall it was a great experience for both teams."
Gilbert Limo won the men's 8K race pacing the field with a 25:02.28. He beat the field by seven seconds for his first victory of the season. Silas Kemboi finished in third running a 25:17.35.
Valentino Julien and Nathan Milles crossed the line in sixth and seventh with times of 26:08.54 and 26:12.92, respectively. The fifth Red Raider to finish was Samuel Bushong. Bushong ran the course in 26:18.71 to place ninth.
Two other Red Raiders placed in the top 20 as Reid Strong (26:39.07) was 14th and Zack Dawson (26:41.52) was 15th. The men scored 26 points as a team and beat the field by 24 points.
The women's team continued in the first race of the day ran extremely well for its third-straight victory of the season. Five runners finished in the top seven of the race and it marks the third race of the season that the Lady Raiders have put five runners in the top 10.
Tanui finished second for the first time this season with a time of 16:54.03. Caroline Jepleting crossed the line right behind her teammate in third running a time of 17:04.34.
The twins Winrose and Caroline Karunde finished in fifth and sixth running 17:13.12 and 17:23.27. Purity Biwott was the fifth to cross the line as she placed seventh. Biwott covered the 5K course in a time of 17:27.45.
Michelle Guzman ran an 18:24.14 and finished in 20th place. The Lady Raiders cross country team totaled 23 points and beat the field by 38 points.
The cross country teams will train next week off before travelling to the Virginia Invitational on October 15th.
