The summer hiatus won't slow down these athletes from running their way to No. 1. The ultimate prize is to cross the finish line first for the NCAA championship this November.

Senior Matthew Brinkmeier returns to a preseason No. 1 team this year. A native of Rockton, Ill., Brinkmeier placed 65th in the NCAA championship last year, seventh in the Midwest Regional, and ninth in the CCIW Championship.

Senior Jordan Schilit finished 18th in the NCAA championship this past November. He earned All-American honors in 2010 and 2011, and he placed sixth in the Main Line Invitational.

Chris Williams finished 38th in the NCAA championship this past November. The junior from Longmeadow, Mass., earned an All-Region award for 2011.

Junior Mark Phillips ran the top time in the 10,000-meter race in 2011, which is also the third-highest time in Wheaton's school history. He took second place in the CCIW Championship in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:59.86.

Junior Tully Hannan placed 27th in the NCAA championship with a time of 24:39.10. Hannan also placed third at the Bates Invitational, running the 5,000-meter in 16:11.31.

Senior Matt Rand placed 19th in the NCAA championship with a time of 24:36, shaving 19 seconds off of his previous personal best. He received All-American honors for finishing in the top 35 of the race.

Junior John Crain placed fifth in the CCIW championship with a time of 25:30 in the 8,000-meter. A native of Dunlap, Ill., Crain placed 48th in the NCAA championship by running the 8,000-meter in 24:56.
