Ka’a'awa, HAWAII – Paced by individual wins by Micah Chelimo and Susan Tanui, the Alaska Anchorage No. 8 men’s and No. 6 women’s cross country teams started the 2012 slate with victories at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational on Saturday.
The men’s team captured 1-9, with Chelimo leading the Seawolf pack. Sophomore Dylan Anthony was second, followed by senior Alfred Kangogo, sophomore Isaac Kangogo, senior Jake Parisien and freshmen Andrey Ionashku and Dominik Notz.
On the women’s side, junior Susan Tanui furnished her first individual title with the Seawolf cross country team, while junior Ivy O’Guinn collected a podium position in third. Senior Miriam Kipng’eno took fourth, followed by senior Katie Krehlik and freshman Sarah Friestone in fifth and sixth. Freshman Jaymi Bethea took eighth, while sophomores Bryn Haebe and Christi Schmitz were ninth and 10th, respectively.
