No. 4 Oklahoma splits invitational with 2-2 finish as freshmen lead way

TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma men’s and women’s cross country teams kicked off the 2012 season at the Hurricane Festival in Tulsa Saturday morning.

The No. 4 men’s team split the festival with a 2-2 finish, while the women’s team posted a 3-2 effort in this morning’s race.

The Sooner men were led by in Brandon Doughty who finished 14th and Dan Schubert who took 17th with times of 21:53 and 22:06, respectively.

Patrick Gomez (22:36), Malcolm Wankel (23:09) and Daniel Mazar (23:33) rounded out Oklahoma’s field with top-30 finishes.

A pair of Sooner women led the way for the Crimson and Cream as they finished in the top-10 of the two-mile race in Jess Engel, who took the first-place finish in 10:57, and Molly Ferguson who finished seventh in 11:26.

Robin Ray finished 15th followed by Erin Gaffney (13:29) and Myranda Joiner (13:44) who took 36th and 41st, respectively.
