HANOVER, N.H. — No.1 Middlebury opened up its 2011 season at the Dartmouth Invitational. The Panthers were the only Division III team competing at the meet placing fifth, only one point behind fourth place Brown. The meet was the first as head coach Nicole Wilkerson, who took over the head coaching duties after long-time coach Terry Aldrich retired.
Junior Addie Tousley placed best for the Panthers finishing 22nd (17:58). She was followed closely by teammates senior Margo Crammer (18:04) and sophomore Emily Attwood (18:14). They finished 24th and 27th respectively.
Other top placers for Middlebury include senior Chels Ward-Wallers (30th; 18:20), senior Claire McIlvennie (32nd; 18:22), and freshman Katie Carlson (33rd; 18:23).
No. 4 MIT at Engineer’s Cup
BOSTON — No. 4 Massachusets Institute of Technology had five of the top-seven finishers to easily capture the team title at the Engineer’s Cup against Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute and Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon at Boston’s Franklin Park. Alexandra Taylor took the top spot overall as Tech finished with 23 team points, well ahead of runner-up RPI’s total of 41.
Taylor cruised to a 15-second victory, finishing in 19:36. A pair of RPI harriers came in behind Taylor but after that, the next four runners across the finish belonged to MIT. Shivani Kaushal took fourth place in her intercollegiate debut with a time of 19:59. Claire O’Connell was next through the chute in 20:06. Louise van den Heuvel placed sixth (20:30) and Cindy Huang rounded out the top five for Tech with a seventh-place result.
