PALO ALTO – Twenty Division I teams, including eight of the West Region’s top 12 and 10 ranked among their region’s top 15. The top-ranked NAIA program in the land. The 19th-ranked Division II program in the land. The nation’s fourth-ranked Division III program. And the list goes on.

How would you expect a Chico State team to fare against that kind of competition? Guess again. The Wildcats did better than you might guess on Saturday. Chico State finished in eighth place out of 32 teams at Saturday’s Stanford Invitational, one spot ahead of UCLA, facing some of the toughest competition across all divisions. It was the Wildcats ninth consecutive top-10 finish in Palo Alto.
