GOODYEAR, Ariz.— California Baptist won the Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships today hosted by Grand Canyon.
CBU had four runners make first team All-PacWest (Ashlee Cervantes, Lynnea Sjoerdsma, Malaysia Alexander and Jacquie Lutz). Two runners made All-PacWest second team (Bethany Bilton and Naomi Van Setten).
“I am very happy with the results of both teams,” said Interim Head Coach Sean Henning. “Overall each runner did exactly what was expected of them. We went into today’s race not wanting to change our game plan. We wanted to be consistent and by both teams winning today I’d say we accomplished our goal.”
The Lancers ran a team time of 1:34.09, the third fastest time in school history. BYU-Hawaii finished second with a team time of 1:34:55 and Grand Canyon placed third with a team time of 1:39:53. CBU put all five runners in the top 10.
It is the Lancers’ first team victory since being reinstated as a program in 2008.
For the seventh consecutive race, Cervantes led the way for the Lancers, finishing fourth in 18:30.7. Sjoerdsma finished fifth running an 18:44.7 and Alexander came in at 18:48.5 finishing sixth.
