Syracuse finally breaks into top 10 in USTFCCCA preseason poll

Syracuse broke into the top 10 of the 2012 USTFCCCA preseason national poll, garnering a No. 9 ranking heading into this season. They placed 17th at nationals at the end of last season with the help of now-graduated Lauren Penney, who finished 21st, and returning senior Sarah Pagano, who finished 52nd.

After finishing 15th last year, the men were placed at No. 12 in their national poll.

Both the Syracuse men and women were ranked at the top of their regional rankings, which were released on Monday, after winning the Northeast Regionals for the third consecutive season in 2011. The women received a number one ranking in the preseason Northeast regional rankings and the men were ranked at number two.

The men received a total of 216 votes and lead all of the Big East teams in the poll. The women received 246 votes in the poll and are the third-highest ranked Big East squad following the 2011 national champion, Georgetown at No. 3 and Providence at No. 7.
