No. 15 Western Washington powers past No. 18 Seattle Pacific

LACEY, Wash. – Western Washington’s Katelyn Steen placed third to help the Viking women take first at the Saint Martin’s Cross Country Invitational held Saturday on the SMU campus.

No. 15 WWU scored 27 points to runner-up Seattle Pacific’s 48 in the five-team field.

Club Northwest’s Ruth Perkins took the women’s title with a time of 22:08 over six kilometers in a field of 53.

Steen placed third for a consecutive week, this time with a 22:29 clocking.

Also scoring points for the WWU women were Austen Reiter in 12th (23:43), Arielle Walton in 14th (23:55), Haley O’Connor in 17th (24:07) and Maddy Jalbert in 18th (24:08).

“It was a good solid race,” coach Pee Wee Halsell said. “Katelyn [Steen] had a good race. We had a pretty good pack, but it was over a minute behind her.”
