Agnew leads No. 16 U-Mary to strong finish against Division I competition
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- In a meet featuring the two Division I programs in North Dakota, University of Mary All-American Melissa Agnew placed first on the women’s side and Chris Jessop was the top college runner on the men’s side at the Ron Pynn Invitational.
Agnew also claimed second overall and first among attached runners in the Maroon II (Division II) competition at the Roy Griak Invitational earlier this season.
In team standings, the 16th-ranked U-Mary women finished second, trailing only North Dakota State. The host school, North Dakota, placed third, followed by Manitoba and Minot State.
On the men’s side, a shorthanded Marauders squad placed third overall.
Agnew cruised to the win in a time of 17:28.0, strongly ahead of NDSU’s Heidi Peterson’s posting of 17:37.7. U-Mary All-American Dakota Wolf placed fourth with a time of 17:55.4.
Alicia Nehl and Kayla Carlson placed 10th and 11th, behind only runners from NDSU and UND. Nehl had a time of 18:31.8 and Carlson ran an 18:50.6.
Nicole Huelsman (19:13.8) placed 18th and Sarah Grimm (19:23.5) was 19th. Kelsey Lambrecht (19:50.6) finished 27th, Erin Leir (20:09.0) 31st, Sydney Kraft (21:08.8) 48th, Jordan Donaghy (21:26.1) 52nd, and Kristy Bosch (21:36.8) 55th out of 76 entrants.
