No. 8 Shippensburg won its fifth consecutive PSAC championship on Saturday at the Cooper’s Lake Campground course near Slippery Rock. Senior Katie Spratford won her first individual PSAC title by using a superior kick in the final 800 meters to edge Bloomsburg’s Vicki Davis by 10 seconds.
Shippensburg had four All-PSAC performances and had six runners finish among the top 26 overall.
The Shipraiders scored 52 points to edge No. 11 Edinboro, which finished second with 73 points, No. 18 Indiana (Pa.), which fhinished third with 89 points, and No. 19 West Chester, which finished eighth with 236 points. Bloomsburg and Kutztown placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Spratford went toe-to-toe with Davis before putting forth a dominant kick to achieve a 10-second victory. Her win came in 21:32, giving her a pace of 3:35 for each 1,000 meters.
Senior Amanda Raudabaugh impressed with an eighth-place finish in 22:43, resulting in her first career All-PSAC finish. The same could be said for junior Emma Shank, who was one place behind in 22:45.
Sophomore Heather Weiss was SU’s fourth All-PSAC runner, finishing 20th in 23:21. Weiss was just 16 seconds off her career PR.
Sophomores Caitlin Perry and April Schlusser finished 24th and 26th respectively with times of 23:32 and 23:35. Perry was SU’s fifth and final scorer.
