Oregon to Portland, Arizona heads north, Arkansas hosts meet
Portland State Viking Classic: No. 3 Oregon
Oregon will open the 2013 season Friday at the PSU Viking Classic at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Ore.
The third-ranked Duck women, who won the 2012 NCAA title, but graduated three members off that championship squad, will face Oregon State, Portland and Portland State.
Oregon will run two members of their 2012 NCAA championship squad, senior Sarah Penney and sophomore Abbey Leonardi. Junior Megan Patrignelli will also run for the Ducks, as will sophomore Molly Grabill, who is coming off a redshirt season.
Four women will be making their debuts for the women: sophomore Ally Aschbacher, redshirt freshmen Skylar Evans and Ashley Maton and junior Mia Elbon, who is a transfer from Belmont.
George Kyte Classic: No. 7 Arizona
Arizona will travel to Northern Arizona for the George Kyte Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Saturday.
The meet will include Arizona State, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, Northern Arizona and Western New Mexico.
Arizona was one of four Pac-12 teams to place in the top nine at the NCAA championships in 2012, coming in sixth place. They lost Jennifer Bergman, but still have an experienced core that can lead this group, beginning with junior Elvin Kibet, sophomore Nicci Corbin and junior Amanda Russell.
Dual Meet: No. 7 Arkansas
Arkansas is set to begin its 2013 campaign Friday at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet will feature Missouri and Missouri Southern State.
The Razorbacks return five members from last year’s team; Grace Heymsfield, Diane Robison, Jessica Kamillos, Paige Johnston and Shannon Klenke all earned All-Region honors after winning the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.
The team will be under the guidance of head coach Lance Harter who will begin his 24th season at the helm of the Razorback women’s cross country and track and field programs.
