No. 9 Arkansas was perfect all around in season opener Friday
No. 3 Oregon at Portland State Invite
FAIRVIEW, Ore. -– Third-ranked Oregon swept the season opening PSU Viking Classic Friday at Blue Lake Park. The Duck women defeated Oregon State 22-33, Portland 16-30 and Portland State 15-43.
Megan Patrignelli led a 1-2-4-5 finish for the women. The junior from Monroe, N.Y., won the three-mile race in 16:08.49.
Patrignelli was backed by an inspired performance from Molly Grabill, who placed second in 16:10.52.
It was a satisfying race for Grabill, a sophomore from Poway, Calif., who was running in the Oregon singlet for the first time since being in a car accident last November that was caused when someone threw a rock off an Interstate 5 overpass through her windshield.
No. 7 Arizona at George Kyte Classic
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona made its 2013 season debut on Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz. The women’s squad earned a first-place finish at the George Kyte Classic.
Sophomore Kayla Beattie, a transfer from Iowa, had a great start to her Arizona career, winning the 6,000-meter race with a time of 16:47.2 and her average time per mile was 5:40.3. Fellow newcomer to the Wildcats, freshman Maria Larsson, was next to cross the finish line. Her time of 16:52.4 was good for second place overall and she averaged 5:42.1 per mile. The Wildcats third finisher was junior Stephanie Bulder; she finished in eighth place with a time of 17:33.0. Junior Hanna Peterson’s time of 17:35.5 was good for ninth place overall. Sophomore Molly Callahan was the fifth scorer for the Wildcats, she took 13th place and posted a time of 17:53.9. Freshman McKenna Gaffney also ran for the Wildcats and finished in 26th place overall with a time of 18:44.6.
The women’s team won with 33 points, Northern Arizona totaled 36 points for second place, Arizona State took third place with 51 points and Grand Canyon finished in fourth with 115 points.
No. 9 Arkansas at Dual Meet
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The No.9 Razorbacks recorded two perfect scores of 15 points against Missouri and Missouri Southern State on Friday. The Razorbacks were led by Senior Stephanie Brown who recorded her first collegiate cross country victory by crossing the line at the 13:39 mark.
Alongside Brown, Dominique Scott helped lead the main pack of Razorbacks for the meet. Scott turned in a time of 13:39 followed closely by Diane Robison who finished at 13:41 and then three Razorbacks in Sandie Raines, Jessica Kamilos and Regan Ward each crossed the line in a pack at 13:51. Senior Paige Johnston rounded out the lead pack finishing in eight place with a time of 14:20.
Missouri would total 49 points in the race while Missouri Southern picked up 50 to each finish behind the Razorbacks.
