COLLEGEVILLE, PA. – Jennifer Bayzick scored three goals and assisted on another as nationally third-ranked Ursinus College defeated ninth-ranked Cortland, 6-0, in a non-league contest. The Bears improve to 14-1, while Cortland drops to 13-2 while suffering its first shutout since a 1-0 home loss to The College of New Jersey on Oct. 28, 2007.
Bridget Resetco added a goal and two assists and Alyssa Thren and Megan Yoder each scored once for Ursinus. LauraLee Lightwood-Mater made one save for the shutout.
Cortland senior goalie Ashley Hughes (Selden/Comsewogue) made 13 saves and allowed five goals in 59:56 of action for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Emily von Schondorf (Webster/Webster Thomas) stopped five shots and gave up one goal over the final 10:04. In addition, senior back Angela Lorello (East Greenbush/Columbia) registered a defensive save.
The hosts led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Thren in the third minute and Bayzick in the 16th minute. The margin remained at two for the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, but teh Bears scored three times in a 14-minute span to put the game away.
