NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Senior attack Jenny Weir (pictured left - Richmond, VA/James River) scored the game's only goal Wednesday as the Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Christopher Newport University 1-0 in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament.
LC held a slight 11-8 edge in shots in the first half, but neither team could break into the scoring column. Weir scored on a cross from junior Christina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) at 42:34 to break the scoreless tie. For the game, LC held a 17-14 advantage in shots while CNU had an 8-6 edge in penalty corners. The Hornet defense withstood three CNU corners after the game clock had expired.

The 11th-ranked Hornets avenge an early season 1-0 loss at Christopher Newport.
