COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Buckeye senior Lucy Clayton's goal, her third of the game, almost six minutes into overtime lifted the No. 17-ranked Ohio State field hockey team to a 4-3 win over No. 14 Louisville Wednesday, Sept. 14, at North Turf Field. OSU moves to 4-2 on the year and has won its last three games and four of the last five. Louisville's winning streak stops at five, as the Cardinals drop to 5-2 on the year.

Ohio State trailed 3-1 with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation. Clayton cut the deficit in half with a goal at 53:40, just 2:20 after the Cardinals had gone up, 3-1. Yesenia Luces tied the game at the 60:36 mark of the game, as she scored on a rebound following a Buckeye penalty corner.

Clayton scored on the first shot on goal of overtime, as she took a pass from Leticia Fragapane and scored from right in front of the cage at 75:46.

"Our team showed a lot of personality today," Buckeye head coach Anne Wilkinson said. "They were relentless and didn't pay attention to the scoreboard. They never gave up and kept on fighting. When you have a team with this kind of attitude, you are going to be successful. Louisville is an excellent team. This was a great win for us."

The Cardinals opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half. Jen Kastelic scored 18:32 into the game, tipping in a rebound of a Rachel Overton shot following a UL penalty corner.

Louisville went up, 2-0, when Jessica Javelet completed a give-and-go with Janelle Avila at 41:16 of the second half. Clayton (Sr., Scarborough, England) cut UL's lead to one with her first goal of the game at 46:54. Saskia Mueller (Jr., Zuerich, Switzerland) and Luces (So., Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) assisted on the goal, which came off a direct shot on a penalty corner. Overton regained the Cardinals' two-goal edge when she tallied at 51:20, assisted by April White, following a penalty corner.

Clayton started the Buckeye comeback just 2:20 later, when she picked up a loose ball outside the UL cage and scored. Luces tied the game at 3-all and Clayton lifted OSU to the win at 75:46, set up by Fragapane (Sr., Mendoza, Argentina). The hat trick was the fourth of Clayton's career and her first since Oct. 21, 2003 at Miami (Ohio).

OSU outshot UL in the game, 16-10, including 10-4 in the second half. Buckeye goalie Lindsay Williams (Sr., Harrisburg, Pa.) ended the game with four saves in 75:46 in net. The Cardinals' Marie-Claire Heller had six stops. OSU had seven penalty corners, Louisville four.

Next up, takes on Missouri State at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Turf Field.
