EASTON, Mass. (September 10, 2009) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week’s Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, posted a 2-1 victory over 3rd-ranked University of Massachusetts Lowell in non-conference field hockey action at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.

Junior Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) played a role in both Stonehill goals, recording a goal and assist on the night. Senior All-American Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) also collected a goal with the match-winner in the second half.

Senior Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass./Narragansett) scored the lone goal for UMass Lowell.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) preserved the win in goal for Stonehill with four saves. Junior Amy Carbon (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) posted three saves in goal for UMass Lowell, which finished with a 10-6 edge in shots for the match.

Ladino provided the difference 14:14 into the second half when she took a pass from Foley after a penalty corner and slotted her team-leading seventh goal of the season inside the left post from four yards out. The goal is the 26th of her career – good for fifth in program history.

UMass Lowell had two good scoring chances as the clock was winding down to force overtime. Osier charged off the goal line and stopped a point-blank shot from junior Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) with 7:10 to play. The River Hawks were awarded a penalty corner in the final minute, but were unable to get a shot off and Stonehill gained possession to run the clock out.

Stonehill opened the scoring 13:08 into the contest when Foley took a pass from the top of the arc from senior Stephanie Kott (Rutland, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) following a penalty corner and fired the ball past Carbon from the upper left hand side of the arc for her third goal of the season.

UMass Lowell knotted the score 10:19 before halftime as Moulton took a pass from sophomore Annie Hansbury (Plaistow, N.H./Timberland Regional) and scored her fifth goal of the year with a high shot from just inside the top of the circle.
