CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Second-ranked North Carolina beat visiting Stanford 3-1 Saturday in NCAA Field Hockey Championship play at Francis E. Henry Stadium to advance to a Sunday meeting with Old Dominion, a 1-0 winner over Michigan. Sunday's NCAA second round game is set for 2 p.m. at Henry Stadium, with the winner advancing to Friday's NCAA semifinals in College Park, Md.

UNC improved to 20-2 on the year with the victory, while No. 19 Stanford ended its season at 15-6.

Sophomore Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany scored the gamewinner for the Tar Heels in the 10th minute of play. Her 11th goal of the season came after she hit the crossbar on her initial shot then was able to grab the ball again and put it past Stanford keeper Alessandra Moss for the score.

The Tar Heels made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. On a penalty corner, one of three for Carolina in the first half and seven for the game, freshman Marta Malmberg sent her shot into the bottom left corner of the cage, with assists from sophomore Katie Ardrey on the insert and junior Teryn Brill on the stick stop. Carolina added a third goal in the 24th minute, when junior Elizabeth Stephens grabbed the rebound after her initial shot was saved and put it back for her fifth goal of the year.

Stanford's goal came with eight minutes remaining in the game. Xanthe Travlos sent a shot across the mouth of the cage and Katherine Swank deflected it in from the right side to put the Cardinal on the board.
