Roundup: No. 1 Bloomsburg wins to stay perfect on the season
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg once again got to a fast start on a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon, erupting for four goals in the first 6 minutes 45 seconds of a 10-2 rout of Mansfield from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg had three different players score multiple goals: senior Kristina Taylor, junior Emily Kohlbus and sophomore Bre White. Seven different players had at least one goal for the Raiders, who recorded a 35-12 advantage in shots and a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Just over two minutes into the contest, junior Taylor Jones opened the scoring off an assist from White. Jones finished with one goal and two assists while White had a game-high three assists in addition to her goals.
Kristina Taylor scored the next two goals of the game – her 11th and 12th of the season – before White capped off the opening run at the 6:45 mark.
No. 1 Bloomsburg 3, East Stroudsburg 0
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Bloomsburg improved to 8-0 on the season as they downed the Warriors of East Stroudsburg 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Huskies improve to 3-0 in the PSAC East while East Stroudsburg drops to 2-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
The Huskies controlled the first half of play as play took mostly in the Warriors defensive half. Bloomsburg was able to fire 10 shots in the first half while only allowing two shots by East Stroudsburg.
Jenna DiSabatino broke into the game as she scored off an assist from Lindsay Danz at the 26:43 mark putting the Huskies up 1-0.
Neither team would score as the half closed out in favor of the Huskies, 1-0.
Fifteen scoreless minutes would go by in the second half before Jaclyn Beasley increased the lead for the Huskies as she scored her fifth goal of the season. Danz would be credited with her second assist of the game, putting the score at 2-0.
Nicole Bruce would add a goal in the victory as she found the back of the cage at the 69:45 mark, which would lead to the Huskies eighth win of the season.
No. 2 West Chester 4, No. 6 Millersville 3
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Kayla Gluchowski scored a goal and assisted on another during a three-goal second half that propelled West Chester to a 4-3 victory against Millersville Saturday afternoon.
West Chester picked up its third consecutive win while knocking off a nationally ranked opponent for the fourth time this season.
Gluchowski broke a 2-2 tie in the 55th minute and then assisted on Nicole Fiorilla's tally six minutes later to put the Golden Rams on top, 4-2. Millersville's Brittany Troutman scored shortly after Fiorilla to pull the hosts to within one, but they could not get the equalizer.
Kristin Arnold was credited with five saves on the afternoon.
No. 5 Indiana (Pa.) 4, Mercyhurst 3 2OT
INDIANA, Pa. -- Indiana (Pa.) defeated Mercyhurst 4-3 in double overtime Saturday afternoon. Anouk Sickman scored in the 86th minute to give the Crimson Hawks the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division victory.
IUP got on the board first, scoring at the 1:58 mark on a Shannon Sullivan goal. Marissa Faso tied the game in the 33rd minute. Faso was set up by Katie Erbacher. Sullivan scored her second goal to put Indiana up 2-1 late in the first half. However, Hurst scored with no time left to tie it, as Meghan Smith evened the score.
In the second half, Anouk Sickman regained the edge for the Hawks in the 42nd minute. Serena Slattery answered again for Mercyhurst, tying the game at 3 in the 50th minute of play. The teams played evenly from there until Sickman finally scored the game-winner.
