Dragon tallies game-winning goal to lead Pioneers to upset
WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- After tying the game up with 56 seconds to play in regulation, No. 7 C.W. Post advanced to the semifinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament after sophomore midfielder Carlee Dragon scored the game-winner in the second overtime to defeat third-ranked West Chester on Tuesday afternoon.
C.W. Post improves to 10-7 overall after the victory and will face top-seeded Shippensburg from the West Division, at Shippensburg on Friday. With the loss West Chester slips to 14-4 on the season.
West Chester took an early lead in the game as Alisha Moran scored on a rebound shot from the left post in the eighth minute.
It looked like the Golden Rams were going to close out with the win until the Pioneer offense came alive in the final minute of the game and senior defender Helene Bruckner tipped in a shot on a feed from freshman Lyn-Marie Wilson at 69:04 to knot the game at 1-1.
The teams played a scoreless frame in the first overtime. Then, with just under 10 minutes played in the second overtime, Dragon took her own rebound and fired it back into the cage for the golden goal.
Senior goalkeeper Devon Trenkle made a career-high 14 saves in goal to keep the Pioneers in the game. Kristin Arnold made seven saves for the Golden Rams on the day.
