COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 18 Ohio State won its six consecutive game after shutting out Robert Morris 6-0 Wednesday at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes (8-3) were led by captain Berta Queralt, who posted her second consecutive hat trick en route to the home victory.
Ohio State was dominant on both sides of the turf by scoring three goals in both periods while outshooting the Colonials 32-2. The Scarlet and Gray improve to 3-0.
Queralt has scored 19 of her 21 points during the team’s six-game unbeaten streak. With her third career hat trick, Queralt passes former Buckeye Linda Haussener for fifth on the Ohio State career goals list with 46 goals.
Danica Deckard notched her eighth multi-point performance this season with a goal and an assist, while Maria Swartz had a career day after posting three points, including her first career goal. Peanut Johnson also had a goal to up her total to nine points in 2012. Nora Murer had an assist versus the Colonials.
Ohio State struck first when Deckard posted her 11th goal of the season at 11:24 after receiving a cross pass by Swartz and blasted a shot into the back right of the cage.
Ohio State made it 2-0 when Queralt found the back of the net following a pass by Murer at 24:00. The team extended its lead to 3-0 when Swartz scored her first collegiate goal off a rebound in front of the cage at 28:38.
In the second half, the Scarlet and Gray opened the score to 4-0 when Queralt scored her second of the afternoon from a slap shot following a pass by Deckard at 44:54.
Ten minutes later, Queralt claimed the hat trick when she flicked a shot pass the RMU goalkeeper at 54:40 in front of the cage. Johnson ended the team’s offensive surge at 68:39 after she dribbled through the RMU circle and scored on the far right post.
Goalkeeper Emma Voelker started for the Buckeyes and improved to 8-3 overall. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sydney Stype made her first career appearance for the Buckeyes in the second half.
