STORRS, Conn.– Connecticut defeated Northeastern 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday.
UConn is now 5-5 in NCAA tournament overtime matches and is the only team in NCAA Field Hockey to play 10 overtime games in NCAA tournament action.
UConn, making its 24th appearance in the NCAA tournament, dominated time of possession outshooting Northeastern 30-7 and taking 14 corners in comparison to NU’s five.
Husky goalie Sarah Mansfield had three saves on the afternoon, while Northeastern keeper Lizzie Priest made 13.
Northeastern, which ends the season 14-7, scored an early goal with Deirdre Duke at 19:42 on a pass from Nicky Graham to give her team a 1-0 edge.
Connecticut’s second leading scorer Louisa Boddy evened the game at one at 60:07 from the top of the circle off a corner. Vicky Arthur and Chrissy Davidson were each credited with an assist.
The game-winner came at 90:01 from Arthur who found the back of the net off a rebound to set the final score at 2-1.
