ITHACA, N.Y. -- William Smith bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominating 4-1 win at Ithaca. The Herons scored twice in each half, with goals from four different players to post its 11th victory of the season.

Senior Julia Simmons paced William Smith with a goal and an assist. Senior Taylor Cappello, junior Caitlin Moran and sophomore Cory Connolly also hit the back of the cage. First-year goalie Amy Feda earned the win with one save.

The Herons (11-1) needed just eight minutes to open the day's scoring. William Smith earned back-to-back penalty corners and on the second, Moran ripped a shot from the left slot that beat Ithaca goalie Katie Lass for a 1-0 lead. In the 21st minute, Connolly padded the visitor's lead, finishing a feed from Simmons.

William Smith outshot Ithaca (8-5) 16-5 in the opening 35 minutes and enjoyed a 28-7 advantage for the match. The Herons also had a 14-5 edge in penalty corners (8-3 in the first half).

It remained a 2-0 match into the 53rd minute when Cappello notched her team-leading ninth goal of the season. She leads William Smith with 23 points this season and has 104 points for her career, tied for 11th on the school's all-time list. Cappello is one point behind No. 10 Lauren vonBereghy '01.

Ninety-six seconds later, Simmons scored her seventh goal of the season to put the Herons comfortably in front 4-0.

Colleen Keegan-Twombly broke up the shutout nine seconds after Simmons' tally.

Lass was credited with 12 saves in the match, backed up by defensive saves by Jessica Smith and Sarah Pfeifle.
