Fisher gets $4.75M raise in new deal

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher has received a $4.75 million raise following his first season as the Seminoles head football coach. Fisher inked a new 5-year, $13.75 million contract that runs until Jan. 4, 2016. He receives an annual pay raise of $950,000, money to be paid to him for his radio and television shows and public appearances.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the signed contract that was returned Wednesday to Florida State lawyers. An agreement in principle was announced last month, but not formalized until Fisher’s representatives gave it a final look.

Fisher’s $225,000 annual base salary and several lucrative bonus provisions totaling more than $800,000 remain unchanged. Some of those incentives include $50,000 for winning an Atlantic Coast Conference division title, $50,000 for the ACC championship, $125,000 for appearing in the national championship game and another $125,000 for winning it.

The deal requires Fisher, who is in his first head coaching position, to reimburse the school $2 million if he leaves before the end of the contract.

In Fisher’s first season taking over for longtime coach Bobby Bowden, the Seminoles finished 10-4, defeating both instate rivals Miami and Florida and then South Carolina in the Chick Fil-A Bowl. Fisher, 45, followed that up by landing one of the nation’s top signing classes of prep talent earlier this month.

The school also released a copy of offensive line coach Rick Trickett’s new three-year contract that will pay him $400,000 annually. Several other assistant coaches were also reported to have received increases, but those contracts have yet to be finalized.
